The Rewind/Forward Truck was commissioned to celebrate PUMA’s Archive range and was conceived collaboratively between Inventory, Eat Sleep, Work/Play and The Klassnik Corporation.
The idea of creating a shop inside a truck arose from the logistical problem of transporting the requested Pop-Up shop interior to a large number of locations.
What we came back with was not a ‘Pop-Up’ but a ‘Pop-Out’ Shop, our truck provided display space to view items from PUMA’s Archives alongside the current ranges in an interactive environment turning the inevitable need for transportation into a surprising venue.
Taking an ordinary curtain sided truck as our starting point, we designed and built an interior with one wall serving as storage and the other forming a jigsaw of bespoke formed polystyrene, plywood shipping crates and mesh cage elements, all designed to be unpacked upon arrival at a variety of public locations, forming modular displays and seating.
The Pop-Out objects are decorated with our graphic identity, colour palette and text inspired by PUMA’s 70’s and 80’s heritage. Ply boxes were CNC engraved with graphics and instructions on how to reassemble the collection they are also used to display items from the archive, house monitors, act as plinths or become seating and tables for the public to interact with, reconfigurable at individual sites before being packed up and shipped onto the next location. Laser etched paltes fixed with cable ties to the wire mesh display information about archive pieces as well as new products.
Visitors can climb inside the truck to view framed displays of the current PUMA ranges, browse clothing, footwear or archive items, watch a stop frame animation of the truck and pick up flyers, stickers and PUMA give aways.
