We like food. A lot. So we were rather excited when Hodder International asked us to design The Acorn House Cook Book. Written by Arthur Potts-Dawson with a foreword by Jamie Oliver, it is a flagship green publication and is the first book to properly combine cookery, nutrition and green issues, presenting a comprehensive manual of how to live for a year.
We decided that the book had to be a usable manual and not another idealist cookery book for simply looking at. All the design decisions were based on this position and were made to highlight the seasonal nature of the content; hand-painted brush strokes line the edge of each page to make the reader feel more comfortable about touching the book with dirty ‘kitchen’ hands. Throughout the book important information is contained within brush-stroke borders and
title pages are set in a specially
hand drawn typeface.
